Overview

First 5 series of Kojak (Pilot + 118 ep.) were aired on CBS from 1973-1977.

In the mid-1980s 2 TV-movies were aired on CBS. 1989 brought what seemed to be revival of Kojak, the 6 season, in which Kojak had a rank of captain. The last season lasted until 1990 and consisted of 5 episodes. It was aired by ABC.

While teaching a criminal justice class at a local college, Kojak embarrasses a student with criminal background (James Woods), forcing him to leave a stolen item to have the upper hand in future classroom discussions.

A junkie prostitute (Tina Louise) holds the key which would help solving the murder cases of her roommate and a local TV reporter.

A young psychologist asks Kojak for help after her fiancee (Paul Michael Glaser), attempts to settle an old score with the people who left him to take the whole responsibility for the crime which sent him to prison.

Kojak goes undercover as a chemist in order to expose the thieves who stole morphine from an insurance company, to sell it at an inflated price. 
21 "Therapy in Dynamite" April 10, 1974
A psychopathic bomber targets people who hurt his friend, Kojak is finding out the link between victims in order to find suspect. 
22 "The Only Way Out" May 8, 1974
A 12 year old boy wants Kojak help in locating his missing father. Case takes an interesting twist in which Kojak is not led to the kid's missing father, but to a thief who flied to Brazil with stolen $25 million.

A series of gang members murders in Chinatown starts a war, Kojak is finding out that those murders were only pretending to be prepared by rival gangs in order to take over the territory from old families by a complete new gang.

Kojak is in pursuit of the individuals who started the war, in order to prevent from even worse bloodshed when old gangs stand against each other. 
25 "Hush Now, or You'll Die" September 22, 1974
A college girl has been kidnapped when going late back from school, she's taken to old warehouse and raped by two assassins, when in fight between them (assassins) one of them is shot by another and the girl escapes. Now Kojak has a one dead on crime scene and no clue what's happened Girl's testimonies would surely help find the other criminal who was this night with them but because of fear from publicly saying that she was raped she's not going to police, her father though is starting his own vendetta as he wants to find and kill other assassin by himself. Kojak must fight through the wall of mistakenly taken parent's care to find the truth about what actually happened that night. 
26 "A Very Deadly Game" September 29, 1974
A fellow policeman from Kojak's precinct is killed on duty. Theo is starting his investigation while he doesn't realize how fragile this case will be, as he doesn't knows yet that the murderer is a well known criminal pursued by the CIA. Because of this, Kojak supervisors are forcing Kojak to leave the case CIA, as they're after him in a large fraud case. Kojak though doesn't think to give up and challenges agents (one of whom is an old Kojak rival) and is going all the way to L.A. since he desperately wants that criminal to be jailed for a murder not a fraud. 
27 "Wall Street Gunslinger" October 6, 1974
Kojak takes the case about fake stocks at Wall Street, which includes also three murders. When usual procedures fails he's taking big risk on his shoulders going undercover as a Greek Millionaire to get into office of well known broker and catch him when as soon as he tries sell him the stocks. Things don't go as Kojak planned, when the thieves finding out that the real Greek Millionaire which Kojak was pretending is in Europe. Theo is kidnapped and can count only that his colleagues will save him. 
28 "Slay Ride" October 13, 1974
In hotel there's an architect's convention, during it a couple of suicides is happening one by one. Kojak doubts that those were actually suicides, he's more convinced when he's starting to finding connection between deaths. The story is going back to the last architect convention at which all of the victims were involved in a young girl rape and her sister death. The dead girl was a soldier girlfriend who was at the time at outpost in Germany now, after this time when he's eventually home, he wants vengeance and is finding (with the guidance of her sister) and killing all the people related to his girlfriend death. As he's about to kill the last person related to the girl's death, Kojak is finding the link between victims and wants to prevent from next murder. 
29 "Nursemaid" October 20, 1974
A gun dealer is forced by a gang to sell them large amount of guns. When a gang is killing members of rival gang Kojak starts his investigation. Together with Crocker and Stavros they're organizing a raid on gang owned pub in which their finding a vault with large number of pistols among which there are also the ones supplied by a threatened gun dealer. Kojak quickly locates dealer with help of pistols serial numbers. He's visiting him and convincing to testify against gang members, the storekeeper don't have much time to think about Kojak proposition because he's kidnapped and killed by a gang. Shortly after this there's a call in which women describes this, as it happens she's a former gun shop bookkeeper who's also not so keen to testify, but when Kojak convincing her, that gang members will very likely find her soon and kill, just like her boss, she's changing her mind. She's taken to the motel away from Manhattan but even though she's under police wings she can't sleep calm as gangsters won't give up easily on a plan to kill her, since she's only one witness of illegal gun sale, and killing of gun dealer. 
30 "You Can't Tell a Hurt Man How to Holler" October 30, 1974
Small time criminal is suspected murder, Kojak thinks that in fact he was framed in this and tries to find the real men responsible for the crime and prove his. The suspect doesn't want to cooperate as he thinks that his new criminal 'friend' (who's in fact responsible for murder and indeed wants frame his freshly met colleague) will help him. He getting more certain when he's bailing him out from the prison, but soon he will learn about real plans of his 'fellow-man'. Kojak is using this and convincing that he should help him, in order to help himself, eventually equipped with microphone is sent by Kojak to his "friend's" flat and is getting testimonies essential for investigation and for him, to be free. 
31 "The Best Judge Money Can Buy" November 3, 1974
A judge died in interesting circumstances, it's becoming soon obvious that he has been murdered, Kojak has to find out who, after research he's coming to fact that the judge was corrupted. The solution to the case rests in the hands of Mackie's father, likewise a judge who upstanding before moral dilemma when needs decide whether or no set a known murderer free to cover up for his son's misdeeds. 
32 "A Souvenir from Atlantic City" November 10, 1974
The only witness to a terrorist bombing also happens to be a police informer. In his efforts to locate the witness, Kojak is must cooperate with a rival police precinct which is keeping the man under wraps. Meanwhile, the witness escapes custody to his sister just as the terrorist group El Compadre prepares to strike against him. 
33 "A Killing in the Second House" November 17, 1974
A wealthy man hires private detective to follow his wife as he suspects she has an affair. Detective is soon delivering a photos at which the wife is seen with his assistant after seeing pictures man is killing himself. Private detective wants to help widow get the money from insurance company (and take his share too), so he's making his ex-client suicide looks like a murder. Unfortunately the case is given to Kojak who will always find the truth. As it happens the private detective is a former police detective from Kojak precinct, who has been laid off work after corruption accusations. 
34 "The Best War in Town" November 24, 1974
This is to be the first day of work for rookie cop, but on the way to his precinct he's noticing a group of men which are trying to strangle an individual. He takes this as his duty and is freeing him. In an attempt to chase assassins car he's shooting in its direction, and the car is killing one woman. It seems that he done right thing, but he doesn't know yet who he was just saved life and that was a gangster who was about to die from rival gang members hands. The cop is immediately in the centre of the whole case as he's only one who can point responsible for this assault (and killing an innocent women).

The friend of a mental patient (Andrea Marcovicci) thinks he is protecting her by murdering her aggressive suitor.

An informant (Paul Anka) uses a detective to further his own criminal career. Directed by Telly Savalas.

A woman's (Ja'net DuBois) husband is murdered during the diamond heist she plotted with her lover (Leslie Nielsen); guest Antonio Fargas.

Kojak is puzzled when a prosperous businessman (Alex Rocco) suddenly is accused of murder and arson; guests Erik Estrada, David Ackroyd.

This, however is not of much aid as there are no other leads and family is nowhere to be found. Inspector Kojak, with the aid of young detective is about to find out that the case won't be all about young Greek girl and that the key to solving it is in the Kojak's past.

Popular book writer is murdered, Kojak finds out that shortly before his death he was working on a book about mafia, so mob is becoming automatically number one suspect, case won't be that straightforward though as new developments are shifting investigation towards young actor and writer's wife who's also long time friend of Kojak. This investigation is about to become very hard for Kojak as his personal past blends with current case. 
123 "Flowers for Matty" January 4, 1990
Fellow cop and Kojak's close friend is shot to death. Theo immediately starts investigation, but to his dismay the case is taken away from him by the Internal Affairs Bureau, as killed friend is suspected of bribery. Regardless of that he's continuing his own private research, as he believes in dead detective's innocence.

DVD releases

Universal Studios Home Entertainment released Season One of the original series on DVD for the first time in Region 1 on March 22, 2005. Season 1 was also released in Region 2 on July 18, 2005 and in Region 4 on July 13, 2005. Seasons Two and Three will be released in Region 2 on April 26, 2010 through Mediumrare Entertainment.
